Abstract
236,610. Rudge - Whitworth, Ltd., Pugh, J. V., and Vernon, G. H. March 10, 1924. Tyre attachments to rims. - A rim a, Fig. 1, for a straight-sided tyre b is formed with a fixed flange a<2> and a split detachable flange, c, a troughshaped filling piece d being fitted between the tyre edges. The, flange c is formed with a hook portion c<3> fitting over a rib a<3> on the rim a, so that as the flange c is expanded into place, a force is exerted to press the tyre walls inwardly. The rib a<3> may project inwards at right-angles to the rim a, or may be inclined towards, or away from, the wheel plane. Fig. 14 ehows a modification in which the central part of the rim a is raised to form a ring a<6>, preferably of dovetailed Moss section, both flanges c being then made detachable. In a. further modification the split flange k, Fig. 15, acts as a locking ring to a separate solid detachable flange l. The ends of the split flanges are forced apart by bolts or by outwardly acting wedges actuated by radial bolts or by fork-ended dog-bolts, and the flanges may be formed in sections hinged together.
