Abstract

236,407. Sutcliffe, H. Aug. 21, 1924. Attachements for broaching.-Shaft keys &c. are broached by placing them in a guide-block B and pressing them against a fixed cutter E by means of a graduated screw H, the work then being forced past the cutter by a press. The guideblock B has longitudinal side extensions D acted on by spring G to return the block and release the work on loosening the screw H. A distancepiece P is provided for inserting under the press so that the work may be forced completely past the cutter. The cutter and extensions D are held by a plate M and screw N. In a modification the cutter E, Fig. 6, is adjusted relatively to the block by the screw H, the block being pressed by a spring G to maintain the head of the screw H in constant contact with a fixed stop Y<1>.
