Abstract
232,732. Short, H. O. Feb. 21, 1924. Screw propellers.-In screw propellers, the blades are wholly or partly constituted by serrated cylinders which are rotated on their own axes in addition to the rotary motion about the propeller axis. Serrated rollers 5, Fig. 1, which replace the ordinary blades of a screw propeller are radially mounted with respect to the hollow propeller shaft 1 and are rotated on their own axes from a shaft 8 through gearing 6, 7. In a modification, the roller 5, Fig. 3, is placed along the, leading edge of an ordinary blade 11. Alternatively the propeller may be made up with a number of radial rollers and a number of ordinary blades.
