Abstract
231,488. Power Specialty Co., (Assignees of Dowd, W. E.). March 26, 1924, [Convention date]. Arrangements of superheating tubes in boiler furnaces. - In a steam boiler, the combustion chamber is provided with a lining comprising water-heating tubes alternating with superheating tubes. A bank of water-heating tubes B is arranged above a combustion chamber A, the ends being connected to the headers B'. A steam drum C is connected to the tubes B by tubes D and nipples E. The front wall of the combustion chamber is provided with water-heating tubes F alternating with superheating tubes G. Each tube F is surrounded by blocks F<1> of cast iron, and the tubes G are of cast steel section connected end to end. The ends of the tubes F are connected to upper and lower headers F<3>, F<2>, which are connected to the circulating system of the boiler as shown. The superheater header G' is connected by pipe J to the steam drum C. The blocks F<1> and tubes G unite to form a smooth surface, and warping is prevented by the provision of interlocking ribs G<5>. A supporting framework K may also be provided. In a modified construction, Fig. 4, bare tubes FA, GA may be used and may be clamped together by blocks LA. The two sets of tubes may be in line or staggered.
