Envelopes, making.-Apparatus for removing waste portions 12 from envelope and like blanks 11, which may be fed in the form of a web, or separately, comprises a finger 17 which is pivotally and slidably mounted in a sleeve 36 and has an orbital movement A, B, C, D, so that the waste portions are pressed downwardly through a slot in a table 15 and between slowlymoving belts 58, 59, where they are nested before being discharged into a receptacle 57. The stem 35 is adjustably mounted in a block 44, which is itself adjustably mounted in a slot 51 in a crank arm 30 driven by gears 25, 26. The arm 30 has a pin-and-slot connection with the gear 26, and the sleeve 36 is mounted on an eccentrically adjustable pivot 37 to vary the depth of travel of the finger 17. After its downward stroke, the finger 17 is withdrawn so as to clear the blank on its upward stroke. Independent devices may be mounted so as to remove waste from each side of the blanks, as shown in Fig. 4.
