Abstract

Regulation, automatic.- Relates to means for improving the power factor by connecting condensers in parallel with the current consuming device. To overcome the wastage normally caused by the presence of harmonics in the circuit, choking coils are inserted in series with the condensers and are so dimensioned that the series for the fundamental wave is of a capacity character, while for the harmonics it is of an inductive character. The Figure shows one arrangement comprising condensers b<1>, b<2>, b<3> and choking coils c<1>, c<2>, c<3> star-connected in parallel to the motor a. According to another arrangement the condensers and choking coils are delta-connected. The condensers and choking coils are preferably such that they have a resonance frequency which is the geometrical mean of the fundamental frequency and the frequency of the first harmonic present and is in any case lower than three times the fundamental frequency.
