Abstract

228,507. Henschel & Sohn Ges. Jan. 28, 1924, [Convention date]. Pulverulent-fluel burners.-A burner for use in locomotives is provided with a head 5 formed with a number of apertures 6 at which coal dust intimately mixed with air before entering the head is burnt. The burner head 5 is mounted on a mixing chamber 2 into which coal dust and air are blown through a nozzle 1. The mixing chamber 2 consists of an inner space 15 and an annular space 16 provided with oppositely inclined helical vanes 3, 4 and supplied with additional air through an opening 12 in an end piece 7. The air necessary for complete combustion is supplied to a shell 8 from which it passes through a jacket 17 surrounding the mixing chamber 2 and issues through slots 9 in the base of the burner head so as to impinge on the flames burning at the apertures 6. Steam for reducing the temperature of combustion or for cleaning the burner may be supplied through a pipe 10 opening into the nozzle 1.
