Abstract

226,915. Bamford, J., and Bamford, C. J. Oct. 29, 1923. Haymaking.-A swath-turner, side-delivery rake, or the like of the kind wherein bars 2 carrying tines and extending between spaced reels obtain their raking motion from the main axle 3 of the machine has both its reels supported by means independent of the usual shaft 12 extending approximately down the middle of the rake. The axle drives a longitudinal shaft 1 mounted in spaced bearings 6, 7 through bevel gearing 5, the shaft 1 carrying towards its rear extremity the forward reel 9. The shaft extends through the reel 9 and supports a bearing member 8<a> having a depending part 11 in which the forward end of the central shaft 12 is mounted. A similar bearing member is hung upon a stud to carry the rear end of the shaft 12, this stud also supporting the rear reel 13 of the rake. In a modification, Fig. 4, the forward reel 9 is mounted upon and driven by a tubular sleeve 19 supported in a bearing carried by the forward end of the frame, the central shaft 20 in this case being bent at 17 to pass through the reel and the sleeve.
