Abstract

Seats, arrangement of. - A motorcar &c. is adapted to provide sleeping accommodation by forming an opening 2 between the upper and lower crossmembers 3, 4 of the framing 1 of the forward seat-back and disposing therein two hingedly-connected cushions 5, 7 which are folded therein and covered at the front and back respectively by detachable upholstery 9 and a hinged flap 14 secured to the upholstery at 10. Turnbuttons 15 and strap and buckle fastenings 11 - - 13 secure the flap and the upholstery in place. In converting the car into a couch, the flap 14 and upholstery 9 are removed, retaining bolts 8 are released from the cushion 5, and the cushions 5, 7 are unfolded forwardly to rest upon bars 30 secured to brackets 32 on the cross-member 4, the bars being provided either with projections 34 which engage the front seat' or with hinged legs 33. The rear-seat cushion 22 rests adjacent the cushion 5 upon bars 24 detachably carried by brackets 26, 29 on the rear seat and cross-member 4 respectively, and the front-seat cushion 23 is placed on the rear seat. The upper cross-member 3, which is detachably secured t'o the framing 1, is removed and the flap 14 and upholstery 9 are rolled up to form a pillow. The heights of the various supports are arranged to bring the cushions into horizontal alignment.
