Abstract

1,236,647. Vehicle seats. R. J. SEARLE. 10 July, 1969 [13 June, 1968], No. 28063/68. Heading B7J. A powered vehicle includes a forward driving seat 1 which comprises a base portion located within the vehicle adjacent a side wall thereof, and a backrest cushion 11 removably mounted in and extending transversely across the vehicle at the rear of the base portion, such that removal of the backrest cushion 11 leaves the base portion free for use in situ as a forward portion of a bed. As shown, the base portion of the driving seat 1 is the front portion of a bedbase 9, the rear portion of the bed-base 9 forming the base portion of a rearward facing passenger seat 3 having a backrest cushion 12. Each backrest cushion e.g. 11 includes hooks e.g. (26, 27), Fig. 2 (not shown), whereby the backrest member 11 is removably attached to elongate tubes e.g. 10 extending vertically upwards from sockets e.g. 13, 14, 15, 16 fixedly attached to the sides of the bed-base 9. The tubes may be selectively slidingly engaged in these sockets to thereby allow for altering the position of the backrest cushions and for instance as described with reference to Fig. 3 (not shown) tubes (10, 28, 29, 25) are positioned in sockets 13, 14, 15, 16 respectively whereby the backrest cushions 11, 12 can be positioned adjacent the side wall of the vehicle to form an inward facing settee in conjunction with the bed base 9. The vehicle also comprises a rear passenger seat whose base cushion 21 can be slid forward and whose backrest cushion 22 can be hinged down to form an intermediate portion and a rear portion respectively of the bed. The vehicle also includes seats 2, 4, 6 adjacent the other side wall which seats are constructed as seats 1, 13, 5 respectively and are similarly adaptable. As described with reference to Fig. 3 (not shown) a table top 30 may be fixed between the bed-bases 9, 17 to two tubes 31, 32 fixed into appropriate sockets on the bed-bases 9, 17. A storage lock may be located below the base portion of the driving seat 1 and/or below the base portion of the seat 3.
