Abstract

223,388. Cairns, J. Oct. 4, 1923. Mounting.-A spring-driven fan is so mounted that the whole device may be rotated on its stand by the spring. A coiled spring 12 mounted on a spindle 9 drives a freely-mounted gear wheel 8 through a pawl-and-ratchet 13, 14. The wheel 8 drives the fan 28 through gearing 15 - - 18 and pulley-tackle 20 - - 26, Fig. 2, and also meshes with a gear-wheel 7 on a spindle 6 which is journaled in the pedestal 4 and adapted to be locked thereto by a nut 35. The fan and its actuating means are revolubly mounted in the pedestal 4 so that when the spindle 6 is locked, the wheel 8 over-runs the wheel 7 and the fan rotates on the pedestal. A spring brake 31, Fig. 1, actuated by a hand-lever 33, is used for starting and stopping the drive.
