Abstract
222,070. Tomkins, E. S., and Mair, A. July 14, 1924. Hoods for automobiles comprise a hoodstick 17 pivoted to a main support 14 intermediate the ends thereof and carrying a stretcher bar 18 pivoted at its other other end to a front bow 35 supported near its rear end by one arm of a lever 15 pivoted at 29 on the hoodstick 17, the other arm 42 of the lever being connected to the main hood support and the vehicle body by links 41, 19 respectively. An additional hoodstick 20 is pivoted to the stretcher bar 18 and supported by a link 21 hinged to the front bow. The arrangement is such that a pull on the end 39 of a tape connected to the front bow collapses the hood and an upward pressure on the main supports 14 extends it, the unfolding being controlled by the movement of the lever 15 which in turn is controlled by the link 19.
