Abstract
.221,112. Harry, B. H. Nov. 6, 1923. Guards. - Adjustable guards for circular saws, of the kind comprising a segmental plate provided with a flange covering the saw teeth, are adjustably supported at the rear, as by a part sliding on a rod, and provided with cam means, such as the flange itself, co-operating with a fixed roller or other part to adjust the front edge relatively to the table. A casting 16, adjustably supported on a standard 9, carries a riving-knife 17, a roller 19, and an upwardly-inclined rearwardlyextending rod 20, on which slides end can be clamped a sleeve 21. A guard plate 4, having a flange 7 extending over the saw 11 and supported on the roller 19, is pivoted by its lug 8 to the sleeve 21' so as to lie at the side of the saw. As the rear end of the guard is raised, the roller 19 lifts the front, until, when the guard is adjusted for the thickest timber to be sawn, its lower edge is substantially horizontal. The front of the flange 7 may be curled up for strength and the plate formed into a lug to support it.
