Abstract

221,071. Howard, H. J. Aug. 11, 1923. Exhaust-silencers.-A silencer consists of a casing 1 with one or two corrugated division plates 2 placed with the corrugations across the direction of gas flow, so that the gases are divided into two or three streams which re-unite at the outlet. The casing may be in two halves bolted together, with ribs 3 for spacing the plate 2 and with external cooling-ribs 5. The two halves may be pressed from sheet metal, the ribs 5 being hollow and the ribs 3 being omitted. In another form, the casing comprises a flat tube having detachable and reversible end-pieces.
