Abstract
219,840. Jacobus, F., Isely, C. E., and Nestle &. Co., Ltd., C. Oct. 12, 1923. Hair-curling appliances.-In a hair-curler for permanent waving of the type in which a rod carries a rotatable outer tube fitting closely between two heads on the ends of the rod, such as is described in Specification 184,651, the means for permitting relative rotation between the rod and tube in one direction only consist of a helical spring which grips the rod and one end of which is secured to the tube. The curler comprises a tube a, of aluminium or other metal, and a rod b, the ends of which are provided with heads b<1>, b<2> fitting closely against the ends of the tube a. The head b<1> mav be screwed on to the end of the rod b. The tube a has at its outer end a recess a<1> in which is secured a bush a<2>. A helical spring a<3> is arranged in the bush a<2> with one of its ends secured thereto at a<4>. The size of the spring a<3> is such that when the rod b is passed through it it engages frictionally with the interior of thespring, thus permitting relative rotation of the rod and tube in one direction only. The spring may be secured to the tube in any other convenient manner. Specification 160,905 also is referred to.
