216,956. Peters & Co., Ltd., G. D., and Le Clair, L. J. March 10, 1923. Spring surfaces.- A metal framing for seats or seat backs of railway carriages and other purposes comprises girder - like stretcher-bars each adapted to support two rows of springs. In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2, a metal frame 3 of Z- section is braced by transverse bars 2 the bottom flanges 2a of which support the springs 4. The springs may be connected by clips 7, or the bottom coils of the springs may be clamped in position. A wood bead 5 is fitted in the angle of the framing 3 for the attachment of the upholstery &c. In the modification shown in section in Fig. 13, the stretchers are formed by plates 8 with interfitting corrugations 9, 9<a>, the springs being positioned bv ferrules 11 punched up from the plates. Instead of a series of plates 8, a single metal sheet with spacing-corrugations and ferrules may be fitted to the framing 3.
