Abstract
216,656. Franklin, G. H., and Stephenson, H. April 25, 1923. Liquid-fuel furnaces.-In an oil-fired furnace with liquid-fuel burners arranged at opposite ends or sides of the furnace so that one set of burners supplied with fuel projects flames that are met by air blasts from the other set of burners, means are provided whereby periodically first one pair of burners and then the other pair of burners are caused in turn to project fuel jets. In the arrangement shown, air is supplied to the burners 4, 4<a> and 5, 5<a> from a blower through the pipes 10, 11, and oil fuel is supplied through pipes 18, 17, the supply of the oil to the burners being controlled by valves 16. Oil is supplied to either set of burners in turn and periodically, and for this purpose the valves 16 may be interconnected in order to effect the change simultaneously in a single operation. The pipes 10, 11 are located in the lower part of the furnace so that the air supplied to the burners becomes thoroughly heated.
