Abstract

Hydrochloric acid is treated with activated charcoal in order to remove arsenic and iron present as impurities. Charcoal manufactured from sulphite waste lye according to the process described in Specification 102,608, [Class 90, Non-metallic elements], is particularly suitable. The hydrochloric acid is shaken with a small percentage of the active charcoal for a short time and then filtered. The charcoal is regenerated by washing with water and calcining.
