Abstract

215,559. Bernasconi, F., and Nirvana Sleeping Chair. May 1, 1923. Rocking seats.-The side members of folding chairs of the cross frame type are not pivoted together but are restrained by elastic means. In the form shown the side frames comprise members a, b connected by springs i, l whose lower ends are joined by a cord m passing over pulleys n, o mounted on the frames. A leg-rest d is mounted on a front transverse bar x to which the seating fabric h is fixed at its front end, the near edge of the seat portion being also fixed to a bar z at the back of the frame by a short strip q. The back frame c pivots about the bar z and to its lower' ends are attached the springs l; folding arm rests f, e connect the back to the front transverse bar x. In its folded position the leg-rest is restrained by a spring catch r, the tension on the fabric causing it to assume its open position when the catch is released. To limit the oscillatory motion of the chair the springs are provided with stops p which cannot pass the pulleys, the motion of the back is also limited by a stop s.
