Abstract

214,131. Thorsen, L. June 27,1923. Hulls, cleaning.-A device for scrubbing ships' bottoms of the character described in Specification 182,096 in which the exhaust fluid from a turbine driving a brush roller serves to propel the device, comprises a brush 1 mounted in a frame and' driven by gearing 44 - - 48 from a turbine 15 the exhaust of which is directed upward by the nozzle 36. A further pressure is supplied' by a water jet issuing from a nozzle 37 the water supply pipes 20, 21 being journaled in the casing. The device when it reaches the keel is retracted by hauling on the ropes 39, 40 a further scrubbing action being secured during the upward movement by a ratchet controlled brush 2 which may be replaced by a fixed brush or scraper. One side of the framework comprises a buoyancy tank 17.
