214,016. Jennings, E. Jan. 30, 1923. Saddles for cycles are provided with a spring- roller cover mounted and arranged in the following manner. The roller c is housed in a tubular casing a having one end fitted with a screwed cap a<1> and the other end integrally formed with a closing portion. The spindles d, d<1> of the roller are rotatable in plates e, e<1> within the casing, the plate e<1> being prevented from turning by the engagement of slots f<1> therein with radially projecting tongues f within the casing. A flat spiral spring g is fixed at one end to the spindle d', its other end being twisted or bent over for attachment to the plate e<1>. A washer e<2> rotating with the spindle d<1> serves to keep the spring in position. The slot of the casing has its upper edge bent slightly upwards to form a lip to keep out water. The casing is secured to the baseframe m of the saddle by a band b fitted with a bolt b<1> and tightening-nut b<2>, and to retain the cover h in its operative position a loop at the free end of the cover is engaged with a hook k upon a screwed-rod k<2> and a split spring-ring attachment j to the front spring or springs of the saddle. The inner end j<1> of the ring is screwthreaded to form a nut, so that when the rod k<2> is screwed up till its end engages with the hole k<3> of the ring, further screwing up of the rod causes the ring to become distorted and to grip the saddle spring. The cover has side flaps stretched thereto and the loop is made of material thicker than the width of the slot in the casing.
