Description
SPECIFICATION
A composite window casement
This invention relates to a composite window casement comprising two half-frames detachably connected to each other by means of windowframe furniture, and consisting of hollow profile sections in a synthetic plastics material, each having on one side a glazing flange and a grooved recess for a glazing strip associated with a corresponding glass pane and/or insulating glazing unit, and adapted to fit against each other and to close and fit against a fixed frame.
In a known composite window casement of this type (DE-OS 28 34 062), the intention is to attain superior thermal insulation and protection against noise, compared with other types.
Whereas superior thermal insulation is in fact attained, the protection against noise is still open to further improvement. Thus, the noise suppression performance of the known composite window depends not only on the nature and dimensions of the noise-transmitting bridges which remain between the two window halfframes but also and significantly on the distance between the panes set up in the window frames.
Quite minor variations in the pane spacing can lead to very different noise suppression factors.
However, in the known composite window casement the pane spacing is not and cannot be controlled, because the window frames and the hollow plastics profile sections from which they are assembled are supported one against another by means of a soft pasty gum which can be squeezed down to greater or lesser extents depending on the close fit between the two window frames.
In this context, the object of the invention is to improve the noise suppression performance of a composite window casement of the type in question.
According to the present invention, in a composite window casement comprising two halfframes detachably connected to each other by means of window-frame furniture, and consisting of hollow profile sections in a synthetic plastics material, each having on one side a glazing flange and a grooved recess for a glazing strip associated with a corresponding glass pane and/or insulating glazing unit, and adapted to fit against each other and to close and fit against a fixed frame, the halfframes being mutually supported across a gap bridged by at least one sealing section, the window-frame furniture consists of one anglesection half-hinge having a spacing flange and a hinge flange, and a second, flat, half-hinge attached thereto, the spacing flange fitting between the window half-frames and acting as a spacer, and one window half-frame carries a sealing profile which provides a resilient support in the area occupied by the window-frame furniture.
The sealing profile preferably has a fixing foot which is firmly locked or bonded into a grooved recess. Sealing sections somewhat similar to the sealing profile may be additionally interposed between one of the half-frames and the fixed frame.
In the composite window of the invention, the distance between the two window half-frames and hence also that between the inserted panes is precisely controlled, more specifically by the thickness of the hinge flange on the windowframe furniture, while the furniture no longer forms noise bridges since it is supported against a sealing profile which has no influence on the gap between the window half-frames but interrupts the noise bridges that could otherwise develop between the window-frame furniture and one or other of the window half-frames.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described, by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:~
Figure 1 shows a cross-section through one frame member in a composite window casement in accordance with the invention, together with an associated shutter frame; and
Figure 2 is an enlargement of the ringed part X of Figure 1.
The composite window casement comprises two half-frames 3, 4 detachably connected to each other by means of window-frame furniture 1, 2 or hinges (only one shown). The half-frames 3, 4 consist of hollow plastics profile sections, which each have on one side a glazing flange 5 and a grooved recess 6 for a glazing strip 7 securing a glass pane 8 in position. The halfframes 3 and 4 are adapted to fit against each other and also to close and fit against a fixed frame 9.
The window half-frames 3 and 4 fit together with a spacing gap 10, which is determined by the window-frame furniture 1 and 2, which is adapted to provide spacers, one of which is illustrated. The spacing gap 10 is bridged by a sealing section 1 1 of resilient material. When the window halfframes are closed this sealing section is elastically compressed. The half-frame 3 carries a sealing profile 1 A which provides a resilient support 12 in the area occupied by the window-frame furniture 1, 2. The sealing section and profile, 11, 11 A each having a fixing foot 13 which locks into a grooved recess 14. Each hinge consists of one angle-section half-hinge 1 having flanges 15 and 16, and a second flat, half-hinge 2 attached to the flange 16. The flange 15 acts as a spacer. Sealing sections 17 somewhat similar to the sealing section and profile 1 1, 1 A are additionally interposed between one of the window halfframes, viz., half-frame 3, and the fixed frame 9.

A composite window casement comprising two half-frames detachably connected to each other by means of window-frame furniture, and consisting of hollow profile sections in a synthetic plastics material, each having on one side a glazing flange and a grooved recess for a glazing strip associated with a corresponding glass pane
