Abstract

1,245,748. Double panels, windows. ASTRALITE WINDOWS Ltd. 20 Dec., 1968 [5 Jan., 1968], No. 838/68. Headings EIJ and E1R. A double panel construction such as a double glazed panel comprises a peripheral frame constituted by top or head member and bottom members 6 and similar side members or styles, a pane or panel 28 being secured to the frame by resilient sealing strip 24 (neoprene) having a groove to receive the panel and another groove to receive a flange 6a on the frame a further (neoprene) L-section resilient strip 34 or may be a U section strip (68, Fig. 4, not shown) forming a seal between a second panel 30 and the frame 6, the strip 24 being arranged to press on the strip 34 to assist in the formation of the seal between the panel 30 and frame. Ribs and grooves 36, 38 may be provided between iriter-engaging surfaces. The embodiment described is a window comprising two identical frame structures joined by a mullion as shown in Fig. 3 and each window comprising a lower light 7 and a top or bottom pivoted casement 6 (here shown as a top pivoted casement), the space between the top rail of the window frame and the surrounding wall 18 between the sill 2 and wall 18 is closed by sealing strips 40 and likewise the gaps between the sash 6 and its surrounding frame are sealed by strips 40, 44. The frame is secured to the wall by intermediate plates 20 or (58, Fig. 4 not shown). Channels 52 at intervals in members 24 bring the space between the panels into communication with the top hat sections 16 of the frame and screw plugs 50 Fig. 3 in the top hat sections enable silica gel &c to be inserted into communication with the space between the panels through channels 52.
