Abstract

Esters for greasing textile fibres are prepared in known manner from suitable alcohols and saturated or unsaturated fatty acids. Fatty acids of vegetable or animal origin, synthetic fatty acids obtained, for example, by oxidation of raw montan wax, paraffin wax and the like, especially those derived from the refining of edible oils and fats such as palm-kernel oil, cocoa-nut oil, peanut oil, sesame oil, and the like are suitable. Generally, all esters of fatty acids which on saponification yield a good soap suitable for milling and washing may be used. As regards alcohols, ethyl alcohol is preferable, but methyl, propyl, iso-propyl, or other mono-valent alcohols may be used. In certain cases, polyvalent alcohols such as glycol or glycerine are suitable.
