Abstract
207,741. Melhuish, A. E., (American Blower Co.). March 14, 1923. Casings.-Centrifugal fans are provided with open annular converging nozzle portions extending beyond the delivery ends of the blades and having outwardly diverging discharge edges. Blades q are secured between a disc f, Fig. 1, attached to the usual hub flange e, and a coned disc h, having a flared intake. The blades may be fixed by means of tenons entering recesses in the discs and the number of the blades may be varied with the size of the fan. The blade consists of two straight portions v, x, Fig. 2, at substantially 60‹ to one another, joined by a circular portion w. Relative dimensions for the blades are given. The annular nozzle 1, Fig. 1, is formed by extensions of the discs f, h which converge as shown and terminate in outwardlyflaring discharge lips 5, 6. In a modification, the nozzle is constructed separately and is stationary with respect, to the fan wheels. In a multi-bladed type of fan, the walls 14, 15 of the nozzle converge outwardly and terminate in outwardly-flaring lips 17, 18. The fan is shown mounted for use as a desk fan.
