Abstract

205,994. Andrews, G. T. Oct. 17, 1922. Joints with yielding inner part expanded; couplings, disconnectible.-A joint between a hose pipe carrying fluid under pressure and a rigid socket is made solely between the exterior surface of the hose and the substantially cylindrical surface of the socket, provision being made to prevent the hose being displaced by fluid pressure. In the form shown in Fig. II. mechanical means, namely the locking ring 6, which is pivoted at 7, is used to prevent displacement; the bore of the socket is also slightly tapered. In Fig. IV. to prevent displacement of the hose and to aid the fluid pressure to make a fluidtight joint, a groove 9 communicating with an orifice 10 is made in the socket, thereby ensuring that the pressure between the hose and the socket is not more than atmospheric. In the latter modification the ring 6 is retained but it is normally vertical and only comes into operation when the hose is accidentally displaced.
