Abstract

205,729. Cowell, A. Nov. 28, 1922. Lever lids; closure completed by liquid seal; stoppers with valves.-The mouth of a container is formed with a trough 3, Fig. 1, adapted to contain water &c. to afford a liquid seal for the rim 7 of the cover which fits loosely into it. The trough may be entirely within the wall of the vessel, as shown, or partly within and partly without, or entirely without the wall. A second rim 8 on the lid is adapted to make a tight joint with a part of the container (which may be the inner wall of the trough) when the lid is pressed down. In the form shown in Fig. 5, the edge of the lid is formed with an annular liquid sump 13 adapted to fill the trough through the valve 14. A spring- controlled valve 16 may be provided to obviate suction when the lid is lifted.
