Abstract

Sliding-jaw wrenches; jaw faces; handles.-A wrench of the kind in which a sliding jaw is operated by a nut keyed to an external thimblelike handle engaging a threaded extension of the sliding jaw is constructed with a fixed member 1 milled to receive the sliding jaw 8, the side of the slotted member 1 being formed with grooves 3, Fig. 4, to receive tongues 6 on a jaw-face 4 which is finally secured in position by a screw 7. The fixed part 1 of the spanner is extended as shown and receives a nut 12 which is splined to the part 2, and is connected by a pin 18 to a tubular handle 15, between which and the end of the extension 2 ball bearings 19 are arranged. The upper part of the handle 15 is bevelled to engage an inclined surface on a lock-nut 20 screwed to the extension 2. A pin 11 engages a flattened part 10 of the sliding jaw, and serves to control the extent of movement of the jaw.
