Abstract

202,856. Mobbs, S. W. Sept. 11, 1922. Groins and the like, beach.-A groin or wall for coast protection consists of a series of slabs 1 of concrete placed face to face in an upright or inclined position and secured together by means of chains, flexible rods, ropes, or cables extending throughout the series of slabs. The slabs may be of any suitable shape, e.g. triangular, with plane, curved, or angular contact surfaces, and may be reinforced by bars or rods embedded therein. The chains &c. may pass through apertures in the slabs, or may be secured to rings or eyes thereon. In the construction shown, the inner end of the groin is secured to the sea wall 4, Fig. 1, and the outermost slab 7, Fig. 2, is separated from the next slab by a wedge-shaped concrete block 8. The chains 2 are secured to the slab 7 by means of a plate 9 and bolts 11. The last few slabs 1 and the slab 7 and block 8 are further secured together by bolts 13.
