Abstract
To transmit a video signal from an auxiliary video source 10, such as a television game, a video tape recorder or a television camera, to a television receiver 16 for display on the receiver instead of a video signal broadcast from a primary source and received via an aerial or cable, the video signal is modulated onto a light beam 24 which is transmitted by free air or by a fibre optic cable. At the television receiver 16, the video signal is recovered from the light beam 24 and displayed. The recovered video signal may be supplied directly to a video-frequency input (66-Figure 3, not shown) of the receiver 16 or may be used to modulate an RF signal which is supplied to an RF input 54 of the receiver 16. The use of a light beam for transmission, rather than electrical transmission via a coaxial cable or the like as in the prior art, greatly reduces the generation of electromagnetic interference. <IMAGE>
