Abstract

In a process for the continuous casting of molten metals, in which the molten metal is poured into the mould in a vertical jet, by way of a tube 17, the molten metal in the mould is rotated by a rotating magnetic field, and the tube 17 terminates above the metal bath surface 16, whilst the lower portion of the jet of metal which is not enclosed in said sleeve, and the bath surface 16, are covered by a layer of a liquefied gas, e.g. inert gas such as Ar or He, or N2, which does not oxidise the metal to be cast. <IMAGE>
