Abstract

A diaphragm actuating device for compressed airbrakes in a motor vehicle, in which the diaphragm 3 is of preformed dish shape and is mounted so as not to be pre- stressed, the housing 2 being cylindrical so as to control the movement of the diaphragm under fluid pressure to provide a substantially constant working area of the diaphragm over most of the actuating movement of the diaphragm, the housing 2 permitting the diaphragm to be stretched in the direction of actuation as the diaphragm approaches its limit position, the limit position being determined by equilibrium of forces acting on the diaphragm. <IMAGE>
