Spindle apparatus; antiballooning arrangements. - Relates to spinning-machines of the kind described in Specification 179,282, wherein the yarn passes inside a tubular member or funnel and through an eye thereon, the spindle being made in two portions, which are telescopically connected together to permit relative rotary and longitudinal movement, and respectively carry the funnel and the bobbin. The spindle a, which carries the funnel b, is integral throughout its length and is mounted at each end in bearings capable of lateral movement against friction. The bearings are preferably of the form described in Specification 200,452, [Class 12 (i), Bearings &c.], but may consist of a graphite bush 10, Fig. 2, which may move laterally under the constraint of a spring p which presses the flange against the support g. The bobbin is carried by means described in Specification 198,309, comprising a sleeve r, splined to the spindle and provided with a flange s embraced by the flange u of the bobbin-carrier and an annular ring t. The ring t may be braked by means controlled by the tension of the yarn, such as a mechanical brake, as described in Specification 179,282, or electric means consisting of an eddy-current brake, or a brake operated by an electro-magnet, the circuit of which is controlled by the tension of the yarn. The sleeve r is carried by trunnions engaged by the lifter rail 8 and is mounted in bearings preferably of the form described in Specification 200,452, [Class 12 (i), Bearings &c.], to damp any oscillations.
