Abstract

199,493. Halley, J. March 29, 1922. Cutting and perforating apparatus.-Mechanism for transversely cutting or perforating a web before or after printing in a cylinder or rotary machine, and of the kind which is carried by a cross-head reciprocating lengthwise of the web and is actuated to make the cut at the moment the crosshead is moving at the same speed as the web, comprises a cutting-blade or perforating- tool 17 fixed to the crosshead 18, which is reciprocated along guides 19 by a crank and connecting rod, and a co-acting blade or tool 16 carried by arms 21 pivoted at 22 to the crosshead. One of the arms 21 has an extension 21<a> carrying a roller 23 adapted to engage a cam 24a on a pivoted lever 24 raised at the right time for cutting &c. by a cam 38 on a rotating shalt of the machine. The cutter 16 is held normally in raised position by a spring 39. On the backward motion of the crosshead the lever 24 is sufficiently lowered to enable the roller 23 to ride over the cam 24<a> without cutting the web. Spring-pressed feet 27 in the arms 21 hold the web whilst it is being cut.
