Abstract

305,483. Bates Valve Bag Corporation, (Assignees of Hartmann, C. H.). Aug. 5, 1927, [Convention date]. Divided on 295,008. Rotary-blade machines; cutting cylinders transversely.-In a machine for cutting a flattened paper &c. tube 93 into bag lengths 94, 95 with end portions of the shape shown in Fig. 5. knives 61 - - 64 are held on a bar 54 slidable in radial arms on a shaft 22 and co-operate with a grooved bar 71 slidable in radial arms on a shaft 23. A single transverse knife on a bar 87 diametrically opposite, the bar 54 cooperates with a bar 90. The bars are projected from the cutting operation by stationary cams engaging rollers attached to the ends of the bars. Waste portions 98 are impaled upon pins 84 on a bar projected by a stationary cam, and are discharged by a spring-urged ejector bar. The tube 93 is fed over a roller 50 freely mounted on a shaft 25 and is clamped during cutting by a clamp bar 46 adjustable on arms 47 carried by a shaft 24 urged by adjustable springs 101. The severed portions are fed away by clamp bars 52 on a shaft 26 engaging a roller 53 on shaft 27. The shafts of the machine are geared together so that the cutter bar 54 rotates at twice the speed of the clamp bar 46 and the clamp bar 52 is driven at a speed slightly greater than the clamp bar 46.
