Abstract
197,827. Dodson, E. May 2, 1922. Spray carburettors and vaporizes are jacketed by a fluid which receives heat from a part of the engine such as the exhaust system, combustion chamber or valve cape. The fluid may be the cooling water or may be obtained from a separate source. A branch pipe A extends from the water jacket B in the form of a U-tube A, A<2> and then passes through or alongside the exhaust manifold B<2> to the jacket AS of the carburettor. The outlet pipe A<6> leads to the suction side of the circulating pump B<4>. In the uptake A<2> of the U-tube is provided a constriction C<3> which may be a perforated plate or a valve or tap actuated either independently by hand or by a thermostat or coupled to the carburettor throttle valve lever D<3>. The constriction throttles the supply of water and causes that which has passed it to be converted into steam, thus preventing overheating at full load and also prevents steam from being driven back into the water jacket.
