Abstract

178,979. Evans, L. T. Godfrey-. Feb. 8, 1921. Spray carburettors. - Liquid fuel under pressure is supplied past the needle valve 16 to a saucer 30 in a regulating-chamber 18. This chamber is connected to an air-vessel 29, the capacity of the vessel being adjustable by the plug 31. Air under pressure is supplied to the pipe 20 and part enters the vessel 29 through a side passage 26 and a non-return valve. While the admission port to the engine is closed the pressure in the vessel 29 rises, but when the admission port opens there is a fall in pressure at the outlet 21 and the air under pressure in the vessel 29 sprays the fuel through the nozzle 23, part of the air issuing with the fuel. The mixture passes by the baffles and cross tubes 24; the tubes are connected to a jacket 25 through which passes hot air, exhaust, water from the cooling jacket or steam. Baffles 22 ensure a circuitous air flow. The fuel is delivered from a tank by pressure obtained from the explosion in the working cylinder.
