Abstract
Indophenolic bodies are sulphurized by treatment with a polysulphide in presence of normal butyl alcohol as solvent. The indophenol may be used dry or in the form of a wet paste. In an example, the indophenol from carbazol and p-nitrosophenol is treated with sodium sulphide and sulphur in presence of butyl alcohol at 100 DEG C. and under a reflux for 50 hours. The resulting mixture is diluted with water and the dyestuff separated in the usual manner. It is stated that pyridine may be used in admixture with the normal butyl alcohol. According to the Provisional Specification, organic compounds in general may be sulphurized as described above and pyridine alone or other inert liquid of similar boiling-point may be employed as a solvent.
