Time checks.-A timing device for a game ot billiards comprises a clock or other motor which, when the mechanism is started engages with and rotates a wheel carrying a striker which, at the end of the given period, releases a hooked catch from the final operating member, for example a switch member, with which it has been engaged by the starting operation, and produces the desired indication. As shown applied to a switch for giving a signal when the time-limit of the game has expired, the operation of the device by a coin or otherwise momentarily energizes an electromagnet f which attracts an armature e and with it a lever d<1> to which it is resiliently connected. The armature is maintained in the raised position by a spring-actuated hooked latch e<2>. The lever carries a rubber-tyred wheel d which is brought into driving engagement with one of the wheels a<2> of the clock train and consequently a striker d<3> which serves also to restore the wheel to its initial position is carried round from the initial position against the spring c<1>, which may be adjusted for timing purposes, into engagement with a linkage mechanism connected with the latch e<2>. The armature is thus released and the contact arm g<1> carried thereon is brought into engagement with the fixed contact g to give a signal.
