Abstract

195,059. Tesse, F., and Durand, E. March 14, 1922, [Convention date]. Variable-speed gearing comprises masses reacting against a movable conical cam. In a form shown in Figs. 1 and 3, masses d can move freely in radial directions in a head b upon a driving- shaft a. Rollers B on these masses engage the inner surface of a cone f which changes in contour from end to end. The shaft e of the cone is driven at different speeds if the shaft a is moved longitudinally. The centrifugal masses may be carried upon lever arms, and these may be counterweighted so that the cam cone acts upon its outer surface. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also an arrangement shown in Fig. 18 (Cancelled). Members h sliding radially in slots b in a driving cylinder c impingeagainst and drive an eccentric cylinder f. Some liquid may be placed between the drums c, f to assist the action, and means may be provided to vary the mass of liquid. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
