Abstract

Fire-bridges. - An arched fire-bridge 5 for steam-boilers is provided with a flame passage of uniform section for the greater part of its length, while the rear end 6 is cone-shape and terminates in a sharp edge. A damper 11, open at the top and rear, controls the admission of air from the ash-pit to passages 9 in the side walls of the bridge, which passages deliver air into the flame, passage through openings 10 arranged a little higher than the centre of the flame passage.
