192,443. Roberts, L. W. Sept, 30, 1921. Picking-motions.-In a hand-power loom, each picker-stick 12, Figs. 4 and 5, is connected by a cord 21 passing over a pulley to a weight 23. When the lay is swung forwardly, each cord 21 is tensioned and draws a picker-stick to the outer end of the shuttle-box against the action of a spring 24, the sticks being held in that position by engagement with catch fingers 25'. On the return of the lay, one or other of the fingers is raised through a cord connection 33 to a handcontrolled slide 27 on the lay, and a spring 24 then operates the picker-stick. In a modified arrangement for preventing more than one picker-stick from operating at the same time, the picker-sticks are moved into notches in the shuttle-boxes when the lay moves outwardly. When the lay returns, a projection on the end of one of the picker-sticks engages an arm on a ratchet-operated wheel. That picker-stick is thus freed from the notch in the shuttle-box and is operated by its spring to pick the shuttle. The picker-stick at the other side of the loom passes between two radial arms on a similar ratchet-operated wheel and thus remains looked. According to the Provisional Specification, picking is effected by rollers on the lay moving levers, cams, &c. against springs.
