Abstract
20,468. Topf, L. Sept. 15. Pneumatic dispatch apparatus.-Comprises a connecting-tube with a ball joint for use with pneumatic carrier apparatus. Two tubular connecting-pieces a, b are adapted to connect any of a series of tubes e terminating in a baseplate k with any of a second series terminating in a baseplate i. The tubes a, b are connected by ball joints c, c<1> so that either can be moved freely independently of the other. The ball-joint members c, c<1> are mounted freely in members 9, 10 rigidly supported by rods z. The mouths of the tubes d, c are arranged radially with regard to the pivot of the tubes a, b. An air - tight closure between the ends of the tubes is effected by a cap g screwed on to the sleeve h and carrying a closing-sleeve l fitting over a packing-ring s surrounding the tubes d, e. The joint is released by rotating the member g against the influnce of a spring. The connecting piece is then brought over the mouth of the tube selected, and the member g is released, whereupon the spring forces the sleeve tight against the packing-ring, the screw-thread being of very quick pitch. In a modification, a fixed tube may be connected to any of a set of tubes by a single connecting-piece connected by a bail joint to the fixed tube. In further modifications, a common fixed member is arranged to carry two or more connecting-tubes connected to it hy two or more ball-joints.
