2022. Tschinkel, C. Jan. 28. Manifold writing - machines. - The several documents are simultaneously written by a multiple pen, upon sheets of paper 10 fed over the bars 2. The paper is fed by pairs of rollers 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8, 9 operated intermittently, to an adjustable extent, by gearing and ratchet mechanism. Bent plates 11 form spaces or guides 12 for the sheets. The sheets are pressed against the front edges of the tables 2 by brake rollers 29, carried by sliding bars 30 pressed by springs 32. The bars may be pressed inwardly to release the sheets by the projecting parts 31, and pawls 33 engage and hold the bars until the pawls are operated by means of their projecting pins 35. A support 44 for the hand &c., preferably in hinged sections, is attached by pins 45 in slots 46 of the frame. On the hinged cover 47 is blotting-paper 49 stretched over a pad 48. The cover may be opened and closed by operating a lever 53. The several pens are attached to a holder 39, either directly so as to be rigid therewith, or preferably springs are interposed between the pen support and the holder. In Fig. 5, the pens 38 are on a bar 40 pivoted to the part 41 of the holder 39 with springs 43 interposed.
