Copying documents.-The base-board d, Fig. 1, of a stencil duplicating-apparatus is made of glass supported on a frame c, or has a glass window so that a guide-sheet placed beneath the glass may be seen. The frame is supported, preferably by pins e, so that the sheet may be placed in position and held by elastic or other bands. The stencil frame a is hinged to the lower frame c, at b, and supported normally in its upward position by a spring j. It carries a porous sheet on to which the stencil sheet is held by the ink. The stencil sheet is supported between a graduated backing-sheet, and a front protecting-sheet, all three being fixed together at the top. Just below the point where the sheets are fixed together the backing-sheet is perforated, and may be torn away before applying the sheets to the frame. The remaining stiff top part of the sheet is perforated to pass over pins k on a clamping-bar g, pivoted preferably in line with the pivots b, and having an upturned end h which engages frictionally with the frame a, and clamps the side of the stencil sheet in place. In some cases a spring clip, attached to the frame a, is used instead of the bar, and the guide-pins k are then mounted on the frame c. The short stiff part of the backing-sheet which remains attached to the stencil, if sufficiently wide, forms a strengthening-strip to take the blow of the inking-roller.
