Abstract
187,087. Austin, Sir H., and Challenor, R. Aug. 27, 1921. Sliding seats.-A sliding seat for a motor vehicle &c. is provided on its under surfaces with a guideway or guideways adapted to receive a member or members carried by a pair of supporting standards, so that when the seat is in its normal position its front edge is supported from the standards, and when the seat is moved forward to its full extent the standards form the supports for its rear edge. In the form shown the seat A is provided with two channels B, each comprising a forward half b parallel to the seat bottom, and a sloped rearward half b<1> connected to the seat by a web b<2> preferably integral with the channel. In the channels B run rollers c<2> mounted on pivot pins c<1> secured to the standards C, which are connected by a bar c. To brackets D secured beneath the seat are pivoted the rear ends of links d, which are connected by a bar d'. The forward ends of the links d are pivoted to links e, which are again pivoted to the standards C at e<1>, and are connected by a bar e<2>. The links d, e serve to keep the seat in alignment, and prevent the rollers becoming disengaged from the channels. Fig. 1 shows the seat in its normal position, whilst Fig. 4 shows it in its forward position, when the front of the seat is supported by the links d, e. The ends of the channels are closed to act as stops for the rollers c'.
