Abstract

Liquid-fuel furnaces.-In a forced-draught liquid-fuel furnace, air entering the hollow casing between the front and back plates a, b, Fig. 1, through the valves g, g<1>, Fig. 2, and being caused to flow with a whirling motion by guide-blades j is picked up by vanes l, on a hub k mounted on the burner sleeve i and delivered rearwardly through the furnace opening. The hub k is provided with spiral ribs k<1> which direct air towards perforations k<2>, and the vanes l are partly shrouded and formed of heat-resisting metal. As shown in Fig. 2, the lower intermediate wall f of the hollow casing is in the form of an arc having its centre above the axis of the burner tube h. In the modification shown in Fig. 7, the intermediate walls e, f, are eccentric to the burner axis and are suitable for use with wing furnaces. According to the Provisional Specifications, the vanes l may be mounted so as to be rotated about the burner by a motor or by the air passing through them.
