Abstract
183,434. Nachenius, H. A. J. de B. July 21, 1921, [Convention date]. Addition to 175,861. Resistance to propulsion, reducing.-In a ship constructed as described in the parent Specification, gas outlets are provided at two positions in the bottom which are suitably spaced and in communication. The outlets are formed in tanks which fill with water when not used for gas jet propulsion and a set of valves is provided wherebv the water can be blown out ahead or astern when desired. Compartments b are arranged across the bottom of the shin with openings g in the bottom plate, these openings being controlled by plates l pivoted on a shaft h and actuated by the rod k which passes up through the main gas supply pipe a. According to the position of the plates l, water or gas is blown out ahead or astern for manoeuvring. In an alternative construction, the rocking arm actuates a sliding valve which in conjunction with internal guide surfaces deflects the fluids in the required direction.
