Fixed-chamber apparatus with valve systems and means for dealing with froth.-In apparatus for decanting milk from a supply tank., the tank A, Fig. 1, communicates with one or more measuring vessels B each provided with inlet and outlet valves, such as the rotary plug valves D, D', Fig. 4, interconnected as by a rod d to make them simultaneously operable and so arranged as to ensure that when one valve is open the other is closed. When the inlet valve D is open, liquid from the tank A fills the vessel B, any froth returning to the tank through a pipe or pipes F, and when the valve D is closed the outlet valve D' opens to permit discharge of the liquid from the vessel. The valves D, D<1> may be operated by cords passing over pulleys on the tank A. In a modification, the valves are arranged horizonally instead of vertically. In another form, the valves comprises pistons D, D<1>, Fig. 10, connected by links G<1> to a central operating-lever g. In the vessel B, Fig. 13, the outlet valve D' is secured to a rod which is moved vertically by an arm d<4> and is provided with a collar d<6> adapted to engage a spring-pressed inlet valve D when the rod is depressed. In other forms, horizontally-moving slide-valves or rotary discvalves are employed.
