Abstract

183,194. Holder, H. A. April 6, 1921. Feeding webs. - In a machine for treating leather and the like, particularly for putting out, stretching, and softening, and of the kind provided with a tool having blades inclined in opposite directions from a transverse plane, the blades are. formed with a series of auxiliary working edges extending at an angle across the blades. As shown in a machine having a pair of rolls a, b formed with intermeshing helical blades, the blades of one roll a are formed substantially thicker than those of the other, and are provided with the auxiliary working edges, preferably in the form of narrow slots or grooves 14. A presser 15 is provided to hold the material against the roll a to enable it to be subjected to the stretching action of several of the blades before the kneading and softening action of the intermeshing blades. The presser is formed of a concave plate and is adapted to be moved into or out of engagement with the roll a.
